Where Is the Romance of Vegetables?

Remember the beautiful fruit and vegetable labels that adorned the wooden crates that carried produce to market 50 or 70 years ago? The wooden crates went out of use first, and probably that's not so bad, since cardboard is less resource-intensive than wood.

But the labels. The labels. I miss them.

This is what we're left with:

Produce box with green plain letters on the side that say HEAD MAN CABBAGE
The name is kind of funny, but it's hard not to pine for the missing image that could have accompanied the words.
