If you ever wondered how the classic PBS logo was designed, check out this short video.
Designer Herb Lubalin talks about the process he went through with his public television client and it sounds all too familiar. It made me wonder how much of a discovery process he had done with the clients before starting the job. But maybe that wasn't how things were done back in the 1960s.
The thing that impressed me most about this clip is how dreadful all of the rejected logos were. Possibly they were just invented for the video animations? I'm not sure, but they've put a bit of a dent in my respect for Lubalin.
