I'm having a moment of mental overload, brought on by a James Howard Kunstler post and just everything that's going on in politics and the world right at the moment. Probably means it's time to clear out some of the many tabs that are open and weighing me down:
- If Americans had to cut the federal budget, they would do it by cutting defense spending and raising income taxes on the wealthiest. Really.
- Newt Gingrich, who somehow thinks he could possibly run for president, is one scary guy with a personal life that should make any family values voter faint dead away.
- It's old news now (this tab was open a long time!) but John Scalzi posted a worthy analysis of the story about the Ohio woman who was sentenced to jail time for sending her kid to a neighboring (better) school instead of the (worse) one in her own district.
- The wwword.com site is a fun place to find funny things like this.
- Wendell Berry was awarded the National Humanities Medal recently. I guess it was for his poetry, rather than his critique of corporate agriculture and energy policy.
- Clarence Thomas should resign.
- One of the many effects of too much standardized testing in schools: Participation in science fairs is declining rapidly.
