I just watched an interesting talk by architect Ellen Dunham-Jones on what to do with inner-ring suburbs whose proximity to core cities makes them more valuable than the uses to which they're currently being put.
According to Dunham, since 2000 over two-thirds of households in suburbs have no children in them, so the usual image of the suburbs as completely focused on families raising kids is a bit out of date.
So what can be done with all those dead malls, empty big boxes and acres of "underperforming asphalt" (better known as parking lots)?
Just a bit under 20 minutes. Found via Grist.
