It's in the Cards

On the plane to San Francisco, I met a librarian who was on her way home to the Bay area from the national library conference, which had just ended in Minneapolis. She told me that the main library in San Francisco was worth a visit, and she was right!

It is generally an interesting building, but the coolest thing of all was the wall covering. It appears to be made from the library's old catalog cards, but each card has been modified -- written on with a quote from the book in question. If it was a Chinese book, the quote is in Chinese; if it's a picture book, the quote might be a drawing based on one in the book. Here are a couple of photos.

The Grinch on the wall
I'm not sure how the cards were adhered to the wall -- maybe something like decoupage?

Babar on the wall

We were walking around looking at the walls most of the time.
