That usually happens only when there's been a murder (not attempted) and the child is closer to majority, say, 16 or 17. The crime these two 12-year-old girls committed was truly horrible, and the fact that they were influenced by a fictional character demands counseling. They need to understand the ramifications and consequences and I'm not certain they do at this point. They also need to establish if the two girls would be competent to stand trial as adults, and from what I've heard, I'd say they weren't.
